Route B (the complicated one)
Route B is the UCAS application system that is used for specific art and design courses. You choose up to three courses; and they are sent to the institutions in this order. Route B courses are always accompanied by an āEā, either at the beginning or end of the course code.
It is important to note that some courses can be listed as being both Route A or B; it is the same course in this scenario. If you wish you can include a mixture of up to five combined Route A and B choices on your application; yet you cannot choose more than three Route B courses.
Your initial application will ask if you want to apply for a Route B course at a later stage; if you choose this option you may enter your Route B choices at a later date into Track (the system through which you can track the progress of your application online) you may also edit your personal statement to suit these new changes.
Route B courses have their own timetable and application process; potential entrants should take note of the following:
12 February 2008: First date UCAS send applications for art and design Route B Round 1 to universities and colleges.
26 February 2008: Applicants can refer themselves through Extra for the first time.
7 March 2008: Advisory closing date for applications to reach UCAS.
24 March 2008: Last date for applications to be considered in first round of interviews.
28 March 2008: First date UCAS send applications for art and design Route B Round 2 to universities and colleges.
9 May 2008: Outstanding decisions for the first round rejected by default.
23 May 2008: First date UCAS send applications for art and design Route B Round 3 to universities and colleges.
6 June 2008: Outstanding decisions for the second round rejected by default.
12 June 2008: Last date for receipt of applications for immediate consideration.
Any applications received after this date are held for Clearing (see separate section).
7 July 2008: Outstanding decisions rejected by default. Also is the last date for applicants to refer themselves through Extra.
