Hi Speedy. If you want to become a Special Needs Teacher in a Special School, you would have to qualify as a Primary Teacher first and then do the Postgraduate Diploma in Special Needs Education. See
www.spd.dcu.ie/main/academic/special_ed ... al_000.pdf. If you got C3 in higher Irish in your Leaving, a minimum of C3 in ordinary English and D3 in ordinary Maths, you could apply for the 18 month conversion course for Primary Teaching as you already have your honours degree. The conversion course can be done online with Hibernia College (
www.hiberniacollege.net) which would suit you if you cannot go full-time. The only other way is to do the BA in Montessori Education with St.Nicholas Montessori College. That is recognised for teaching in the Special Primary Schools. It is available both full-time and part-time (
www.snnmci.ie). The only problem with the part-time option is that it would take five years! Hope that helps. Miriam
