Cork College of Commerce runs a Certificate in Addiction Studies from NUI Maynooth on a part-time basis over one year. The next one would not start until the autumn (if it is on offer for 2010). The tuition fees for 2009/10 were €1200 and then there would also be a registration fee and professional exam fees, so it would cost a fair bit. If you go to http://adulteducation.nuim.ie/courses/documents/ContinuingEducationFullbrochure09-10.pdf and scroll down to page 10 for the details. However, when I looked for it on the College of Commerce's own website, I could not find it. It might be there somewhere but if you are interested, give them a call. It may not have been offered if the numbers were not sufficient. Also have a look at www.thecounsellingcentre.ie/training_home.html. Check with them to see if they offer any suitable course. A good foundation course in counselling would certainly stand to you, no matter what area you choose.
