Where to next?

Hi,

I've just joined this wondering if anyone can help me? I am 27years old and completing a Hetac Level 8 Degree in Counselling & Psychotherapy part-time but teaching is still coming into my head always  I have my C3 in Honours Irish. Was wondering if anyone can tell me firstly if my degree will be accepted to apply for the 18 month in St. Pat's or St. Mary's or is there any post graduate course part-time I can do to help me get into teaching? I was also thinking of career guidance teaching but because my degree is not a teaching subject I think I am to a minimum in what I can apply to when it comes to teaching. I love working with kids and enjoy the challenge and thats why I always come back to the teaching. Any advice or tips is very much appreciated please :P

Thank you

Yes, your HETAC Level 8 degree should be acceptable for entry to the postgraduate conversion course for Primary Education in the colleges you mentioned provided you also meet the other entry requirements. You have the C3 in higher Irish. Do you also have a minimum of C3 in ordinary English and D3 in Ordinary Maths? However, you could also consider doing it online with Hibernia College over two years. See www.hiberniacollege.net/SchoolofEducation/HDipinArtsinPrimaryEducation/tabid/63/Default.aspx for details. There is no closing date for applications as they have two intakes each year. Getting into the Diploma in Career Guidance in any of the colleges that offer it, would probably be fairly difficult without teaching experience but if you go to www.igc.ie you can read all about the various routes into Guidance Counselling.
