With a honours degree in community studies can i teach post leaving certificate students at this stage in a vocational school, for example communications or fetac level courses, and if so how do i go about it, who do i contact it etc. What would the rate of pay be, would you get paid for holidays etc.

Hi Speedy. You would have to check with the Teaching Council to see if your degree would be approved for teaching on a PLC. It may be possible for you to teach on one of the social studies type of courses but I doubt if you could teach Communications, as your degree would need to be in Communications or Media Studies or something similar. You will find the Teaching Council at www.teachingcouncil.ie. If your degree is approved, then you would need to keep an eye on the VEC ads over the coming months and apply when you see one. As regards salaries, if you go to www.tui.ie you should be able to find the rates. Check with them or a VEC about getting paid during the holidays. I am not sure of the regulations. Hope that helps.
