I would suggest that you go to the Golden Pages for a list of Guidance Counsellors in your local area (www.goldenpages.ie). You will get a wider choice if you use the Dublin area. Make sure they are qualified Guidance Counsellors and members of the Institute of Guidance Counsellors (IGC). Shop around before you decide. Do not be shy about asking questions about what is involved in an assessment and how much will it cost? Fees will vary considerably and they are no indication of how good or otherwise the assessment will be. A good Career Guidance Counsellor will want to find out as much as possible about you as an individual, your education to date, work experience, hobbies, interests, what you read, where you have travelled, any natural talents and so on. They may or may not administer some aptitude tests. They should do a Personality Profile to see what type of work you will SUIT best and also an Interest Inventory to see where your INTEREST lies. They should also be able to tell you what courses you should do in order to focus your career direction once you have decided which direction to follow. Depending on what comes out of the assessment, some careers can only be prepared for by undertaking full-time courses but others can be part-time. Also check out the website of the Institute of Guidance Counsellors at www.igc.ie but most of them would probably be on holidays at the moment. Finally have a look at www.careersportal.ie where you can do a self-assessment which may help and save you money!

Hi folks,I am looking for advice like kerryk to see what course I should go for come September. I erected / fabricated steel, I also completed a FETAC Level 6 Wind turbine tech course & just recently completed a FETAC Level 5 building construction course. I want to get into the renewable energy side of construction but am finding it impossible to get a job, I need to know what my next course should be to give me an advantage in this field. Also would anybody know the details of career guidance professionals in Cork that would be at all familiar with the wind energy and construction sector. Thanks for any help, much appreciated.JK

Hi Guys

I'm looking to update my CV and send to employers for various jobs in the IT sector. I'd like to get my CV reviewed, so it makes the best possible impression.

Would you be able to recommend any companies which provide this CV review service? I would be willing to pay a small fee for the service

Many thanks for your time
