back to full time education

Postby pink27 » Tue May 05, 2009 10:12 pm

Hello,
I wonder can anyone help me. I am thinking about going back to college full time after 9 years working in finance. Im 27 from cork. I am looking at Vet nursing or childcare full time courses.
- Can anyone tell me which of these is easier to get into?
- With the vet nursing, there is a course in st johns cork and in athlone too. What is the difference in levels of fetac. Is there any disadvantage to doing a lower fetac one?
- With childcare, is it difficult to get into a good childcare job.
I know Ive everything thrown in this mail but would appreciate any advice and info on this. Thanks

The course in St.John's in Cork is approved by the Veterinary Council of Ireland (VCI) as is the one in Athlone. St.John's is a two year FETAC course and AIT is a three year ordinary degree (HETAC Level 7). You would be able to practice as a Veterinary Nurse with both courses. There are also other three year degrees like the AIT, in Letterkenny and Dundalk, both awaiting approval from the VCI. UCD has a new four year honours degree (Level 8) commencing this year and one would apply through the CAO (www.cao.ie). It is difficult to know about the jobs or which would be the more difficult to get into - Veterinary Nursing or Childcare. Apply for both. There are a lot more childcare courses than Vet Nurse courses around.
